This radiant textile originates from Japan’s late Showa period (1950–1980) and represents a complete, meticulously disassembled panel from a vintage kimono. Measuring 14.5 inches by 63.5 inches (37 cm x 161 cm), the fabric is crafted from a high-quality silk that features a vibrant orange hue enriched with deep golden-yellow accent areas. The silk is notably soft to the touch, offering a rich texture and a graceful drape characteristic of premium mid-century weaving. The piece has been preserved in excellent condition with all construction threads carefully removed.
The visual narrative is defined by a complex woven motif that integrates bamboo, clouds, and waves directly into the structure of the fabric. This combination of elements forms a "mon-rinzu" or figured damask pattern, where the interplay of matte and lustrous threads creates a visually captivating, multi-layered effect. The bamboo represents resilience, while the clouds and waves are traditional symbols of the cyclical nature of life and good fortune. The tonal shift between the bright orange and the golden-yellow accents adds a sun-drenched, atmospheric depth to the overall composition.
