This exquisite silk sari originates from India and dates to the third quarter of the 20th century, specifically 1950–1975. Measuring 44 inches by 180 inches (112 cm x 457 cm), the textile is in very good condition, although only approximately one-third of the garment is visible in the current documentation. The sari is crafted from a lightweight, charcoal-gray silk that provides a dramatic, matte foundation for the decorative elements.

The defining feature of this piece is the sophisticated appliqué work, which utilizes cream-colored silk silhouettes to create a bold, figurative narrative. The lower register of the sari features a dense, interlocking arrangement of human profiles, stylized faces, and figures in traditional headwear, creating a rhythmic and modern "crowd" effect. This figurative collage is echoed in the upper field of the silk, where individual head-and-shoulder silhouettes are scattered like floating icons. The precision of the appliqué suggests a high level of craftsmanship, blending traditional hand-finishing with a Mid-Century Modern graphic sensibility.
