This intricately worked Miao textile panel originates from the Guizhou province of China and dates to the mid-20th century (1935–1965). Measuring 24 inches by 19 inches (61 cm x 48 cm), the piece is in excellent condition. It features highly skilled hand-embroidery using couched and chain stitches on a durable black cotton base, a combination that provides a deep, matte background for the dense pink and cream threadwork.
The composition is divided into a classic two-tier geometric arrangement. The upper section features a large central square containing a complex swirling solar or floral motif, surrounded by four trapezoidal fields filled with undulating, vine-like patterns. The lower tier contains two smaller square medallions, each featuring a radial sunburst at its center. The entire embroidered field is characterized by tightly packed, curvilinear "scroll" patterns that are a hallmark of Miao ancestral storytelling through needlework, often representing the coils of a dragon or the flow of rivers.
