This intricate Miao textile panel originates from the Guizhou province of China and dates to the final quarter of the 20th century (1975–2000). Measuring 18 inches by 17 inches (46 cm x 43 cm), the piece is a masterwork of mixed-media assembly, featuring fine silk embroidery and appliqué on a lustrous silk base. The dark, indigo-dyed silk background provides a deep, nocturnal field that allows the vibrant threadwork and metallic accents to pop.

The composition is dominated by a large, multi-layered central medallion with a scalloped edge. At its heart is a circular floral or "Butterfly Mother" motif in shades of magenta and gold, surrounded by a border of shimmering violet and silver-toned geometric patterns. Four large lozenge-shaped lobes radiate from the center, each containing complex embroidery of mythical creatures and floral scrolls. The lower portion of the panel is anchored by two triangular corner sections filled with dense, silver-toned swirling cloud or water motifs. The entire assembly is framed by a narrow teal and black silk border, illustrating the architectural way Miao artisans build up layers of fabric and thread to create ceremonial garments or baby carriers.
