This Miao textile panel originates from the Guizhou province of China and dates to the first half of the 20th century (1900–1950). Measuring 16 inches by 14 inches (41 cm x 36 cm), the piece is in excellent condition. The intricate designs are hand-embroidered using fine silk thread on a high-quality black cotton ground, creating a striking contrast that is central to Miao aesthetic traditions.
The composition follows a sophisticated, symmetrical layout often seen in ceremonial decorative panels. The central black field contains five lozenge-shaped floral medallions (one central and four at the corners), each meticulously stitched with vibrant pink and teal cross-motifs surrounded by fine teal radiating lines. This interior field is enclosed by a complex geometric border featuring a repeating pattern of eight-pointed stars and diamonds in shades of lavender, teal, and magenta. Each corner of the panel is further anchored by a square teal block containing dense, tonal geometric embroidery.
