This elegant silk fukusa (gift cover), dating to the late Meiji period (1880–1912), brings together the "Three Friends of Longevity" in a sophisticated composition. Measuring 25 inches by 30 inches (64 cm x 76 cm), the textile features a cream-colored silk ground that transitions into a warm golden hue at the top and bottom edges.
The central scene is rich with auspicious imagery:
A stylized, dark "flowing water" motif meanders through the landscape, rendered in a dense, swirling pattern that adds graphic weight to the bottom of the piece. While the fukusa remains in good condition and retains its four original pale-green tassels, there is noticeable light chipping of the yuzen pigment, particularly along the historical fold lines.
