This charming circular textile, originating from the United States and explicitly dated "78" (1878), is a pristine example of late 19th-century American needlecraft. Measuring 14 inches in diameter (36 cm), the piece is executed using a traditional wool hooking technique on a sturdy backing.
The composition features a central cluster of vibrant morning glories, rendered in shades of periwinkle blue and ivory with deep indigo throats. The blooms are surrounded by variegated sage-green leaves and delicate, scrolling vine tendrils, all set against a neutral, oatmeal-colored ground. The piece is personalized with the initials "LAD" on the right side and the date "78" on the left, likely commemorating the year of its creation. The textile remains in very good condition.
