This fine silk embroidery from China dates to the second quarter of the 20th century (1925–1950). Measuring 15 inches by 15 inches (38 cm x 38 cm), the textile is in very good condition and represents the refined needlework of the Republican era.
The main panel is hand-embroidered on a shimmering lavender-pink silk ground, featuring a lively "Birds and Flowers" (huaniao) composition. A pair of mandarin ducks—symbols of marital fidelity—occupy the lower center, while various songbirds and a pheasant flit among the branches of a flowering plum or cherry tree. The scene is further enriched with bamboo stalks and lotus blossoms emerging from a stylized pond. The lower section of the piece is defined by two brocade edge pattern bands in deep teal and violet, each intricately woven with floral and butterfly motifs.
