This refined silk embroidery, originating from either Spain or Italy during the 17th century (1625–1700), is a remarkable survival of high-tier Mediterranean needlework. The composition features large-scale scrolling floral motifs set against a background of meticulously applied laid-work silk floss. This specific background technique creates a highly reflective surface with a depth of luster that is difficult to capture in photography, as its visual character changes depending on the viewer's angle.

The piece is worked onto a sturdy linen base that retains its original selvedges on both sides, with the top and bottom edges carefully folded. Measuring 71 inches by 34 inches (180 cm x 86 cm), the textile remains in exceptional condition, particularly given the inherent fragility of the long, un-twisted silk floss used in the laid-work sections. While there is minor wear near the corners, the structural integrity and vibrant sheen of the embroidery remain largely intact.
