This substantial and uniquely shaped brocade textile, likely originating from Italy during the mid-19th century (1840–1870), possesses a distinct ecclesiastical character. Measuring an impressive 102 inches by 76 inches (259 cm x 193 cm), the semicircular panel features a dense, rhythmic repeat of lush floral bouquets in shades of rose, violet, and moss green against a shimmering cream ground. The weave is characterized by rich, three-dimensional brocade work that gives the botanical motifs a sculptural quality.
The textile is framed along its straight upper edge by a wide, decorative border featuring repeating floral medallions, while the curved lower edge is finished with a long, delicate silk fringe. The reverse is protected by a fine silk lining in a neutral tone. While the piece is in very good condition overall, there are several localized stains that blend into the complex patterns, and the silk back lining shows a visible tear.
