This decorative textile panel, originating from the United States or England during the last quarter of the 19th century (1875–1900), is a classic example of the crewelwork revival period. Measuring 20 inches by 20 inches (51 cm x 51 cm) excluding its original oak frame, the piece is rendered on a light linen ground.
The composition features a traditional Jacobean-inspired "Tree of Life" design, characterized by winding, organic vines that sprout a variety of stylized, multi-textured blossoms and oversized exotic leaves. The wool crewelwork is executed in a sophisticated palette of forest green, indigo blue, dusty rose, and tan. Various embroidery techniques are used to create textural depth, including long and short stitches for color shading and lattice-work fillings within the flower petals. The piece is in good condition, although some light surface staining is visible on the cream linen background.
