This elegant silk panel, originating from China during the first half of the 19th century (1800–1850), is a fine example of mid-Qing Dynasty textile art. Measuring 17 inches by 14 inches (43 cm x 36 cm), the piece is crafted on a cream silk ground. The central composition features a stylized bird perched upon an ornate, flowering branch, surrounded by lush botanical blooms and scrolling foliage.
The panel utilizes a combination of simple embroidery for the larger petals and chain stitch techniques to define the intricate vine-like outlines and more delicate floral details. This variety of stitches creates a subtle textured effect, characteristic of high-quality domestic textiles from the early-to-mid 1800s. While the panel is in very good condition, it exhibits some minor age-appropriate staining in various sections of the background silk.
