This fine silk embroidery from China dates to the mid-20th century (1940–1970). Measuring 17 inches by 10 inches (43 cm x 25 cm), the textile is in excellent condition and exemplifies the refined needlework of the mid-century period. The main design is meticulously hand-stitched onto a cream-colored silk background, which is further supported by an olive green silk backing cloth.
The central motif features a vertical "Three Friends of Winter" or "Four Gentlemen" inspired arrangement, specifically highlighting flowering plum blossoms and bamboo. The plum branches, rendered in varying shades of coral and deep blue, sweep downward from the top, while a cluster of vibrant orange and blue blossoms grows from a stylized scholar’s rock at the base. The embroidery is framed by multiple decorative layers: a delicate inner floral band, a thin red silk piping, and a wide golden-green geometric brocade outer border.
