This silk embroidery panel from China dates to the second quarter of the 20th century (1925–1950). Measuring 14 inches by 14 inches (36 cm x 36 cm), the circular roundel is in excellent condition, with only two tiny stains noted on its otherwise pristine surface.
The textile is a technical tour de force, showcasing a masterful combination of brocade, satin stitch, appliqué, and the highly coveted seed stitch—also known as "Peking" or "forbidden" stitch. The seed stitching is so meticulous that it rivals the fine craftsmanship of the 18th and 19th centuries. The central coral-red field features a dynamic scene of mythical figures, including a celestial dragon chasing a flaming pearl and a tiger amidst stylized clouds. The central medallion is framed by a series of borders, including a vibrant blue and red band and a wide, golden-green geometric brocade outer ring.
