This antique textile originates from the United States and dates to the early 20th century, specifically the Art Nouveau period between 1900–1930. Measuring approximately 26.5 inches by 21.5 inches (67 cm x 55 cm), the artwork is in excellent condition and features an intact design field with salvaged left and right borders. The embroidery is executed on a very dark indigo blue cotton fabric, which provides a dramatic and deep background for the botanical imagery.
The composition consists of a dense, repeating pattern of lily pad motifs rendered in fine glossy satin stitching and cross-stitch techniques. Each primary lily pad is depicted in a pale cream and tan palette with subtle red accents at the center, resting atop stylized water ripples. Interspersed between these large pads are vertical reeds in sage green and smaller white aquatic blossoms. The high-gloss thread used for the embroidery creates a luminous effect, contrasting sharply against the matte indigo cotton ground to evoke the stillness of a pond at night.
