This monumental textile panel, originating from Western Europe during the 19th century (1800–1900), is a rare and luxurious example of quilted brocade work. Measuring an impressive 77 inches by 15 inches (196 cm x 38 cm), the long, narrow proportions suggest it may have served as a formal table runner, a bed valance, or a decorative architectural accent within a grand estate. The piece is meticulously quilted, adding a three-dimensional weight and warmth to the richly woven surface.
The brocade is embellished with a sophisticated blend of silk and metal threads, creating a dense field of botanical or geometric patterns that interact dynamically with light. It is finished with a substantial metal-thread worked edging, which frames the entire length of the textile in a heavy, textured border. The reverse is elegantly finished with a dark green fine silk cloth, providing a high-contrast and refined backing. While the piece remains in very good condition, there are minor historical signs of use, including tiny areas of thread loss on the face and some light staining and small tears on the silk backing.
