Item Details
Meiji period (1868-1912)
A very unusual silk shibori kimono featuring a unique design consisting of large graphic tie-dyed circles over a peacock-feather pattern rinzu (damask) base. The fine red silk inner lining has several large tears, which are hidden when the kimono is displayed. 48" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 55" height. We don't know if the large red tie-dyed circles are supposed to represent, or are merely decorative. The artistic effect is very bold, striking and "modern".
