A rare and unusual type of ceremonial boy's antique hanten (thick work jacket) that is constructed of high-quality shusu silk. There is much metallic-thread couched emboidery. 37" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 34 " height. Drawing on Chinese legend of a fish so strong and persistent that it could leap a waterfall, the carp's determination to overcome obstacles is held to be a fitting example of ambition, strength and the will to overcome difficulties. With the power to fight its way up swift streams, it symbolizes persistence, bravery and strength as well as surpassing expectations. It therefore embodies the attributes desired in boys.
